Even though many international management scholars assume that international companies are acting globally, empirical research shows that even the largest international companies focus their turnovers and foreign investments on the continent, on which their headquarters is located. As to date there is no convincing explanation of this surprisingly strong home-region orientation, we include various partial explanations already existing in other fields of business and social science. An additional goal of this project is to develop a set of testable hypotheses, specifiying which international companies are specifically home-region orientated.
