Reverse technology transfer in international companies

Project member Dr. Christian Rohrlack

Contemporary international business theory argues that those international companies are most successful which (1) extensively generate technological knowledge in their (foreign) subsidiaries and (2) which master that knowledge is shared among the (foreign) subsidiaries. In light of this assumption it is astonishing that there is currently little empirical knowledge showing how to manage this reverse technology transfer (from foreign subsidiaries to home country). In this project we show empirically (based on data from about 240 technology transfer projects), which management instruments allow the best possible realization of reverse technology transfer.
